Google Glass Availability in the Wearables Market

Google’s new Android smartwatch appears to have many limitations and it’s likely that Google will be improving upon the product before it’s released. While the initial announcement suggested that the Google Glass will be a “wearable” device, we now know that this is incorrect. It’s more likely that it’ll be a “wearable” computer accessory, like a Bluetooth headset or Bluetooth mouse – just like those that are currently available for the iPhone and the iPad.

One of the biggest questions with regard to wearables is whether they’ll be able to connect to your phone or computer in the same way that your smartphone does. With the recent launch of the new Sony Ericsson phone, it was clear that it will be difficult to use your mobile for everything, but the new Motorola Xoom proves that it’s possible. However, your current phone probably already has this capability and you may not even realise it! In poking around the code on Google’s Google Glass, Karthik discovered signs of potential future capabilities for mobile payment: “In digging deep into the Kernel code, seems as though it has all the needed headers for NFC functionality. May be Google Glass is NFC capable?”

When the Google Glass first launched, Google was very keen to point out that the gadget was really meant to be something of a personal assistant rather than a smartwatch. We’ve already seen several versions of the Google Buzz smartwatches and it seems that the company wants to keep that focus even when it comes to its future smartwatches.

So where do smartwatches fit into this picture? The smartwatches available today aren’t very different from what we’ve seen in the past. They allow you to check your emails, make calls, and browse the web on the go, but most are limited in their ability to interact with your smartphone.

But what are smartwatches for if you’re not using your smartphone at all? As long as it’s compatible with the Bluetooth specification, any smartphone can work as a wireless access point. A recent update to Samsung’s line of Galaxy S phones included a built in Wi-Fi, allowing you to use your phone’s internet connection without having to have a Wi-Fi hotspot.

You’ll still need a hotspot, however, in order to use your phone’s Bluetooth while travelling. However, with Samsung’s latest phone, you won’t have to worry about compatibility issues – all current Galaxy S devices are able to use the Bluetooth specification to connect with your smartphone. Even the latest phones from Nokia and HTC can use Bluetooth to let you make calls and send emails.

What’s interesting about the new WaveOS is that it doesn’t use the traditional phone functions that come with a smartphone. It doesn’t have the camera or internet browsing capabilities, although it does provide a few of the things that you might expect of a smartwatch. There are also a number of Google apps preinstalled such as the Google+ social networking site, Google Maps and YouTube.

It’s still unclear whether this will be a standalone smartwatch or an accessory for the more traditional watches available today. If you’re looking for a standalone smartwatch, you’ll have to wait for Google’s next Android smartphone to come out.

Smartwatches, as we saw earlier, are primarily limited by the capabilities that you can use with your smartphone. With the Glass, Google hopes to make a wearable device that can provide you with all of the information that you need without being a distraction. The Android wearable developer is also trying to get the device to be as stylish and trendy as possible, with sleek designs and some funky color schemes.

So while it may seem like this wearable gadget is a novelty, it’s actually very practical. It doesn’t have to be a smartwatch or a smartphone, but a stylish wristwatch that works with your smartphone. It’s going to be similar to those wristbands that people wear to keep up with the latest news. – you’ll see that many of the companies that have created wristband smartwatches are focused on making the user experience fun and exciting.

With all of the attention that Google has given the release of Google Glass, it seems that the company is really looking to take the technology that makes up this smartwatch to the next level. While we’re not sure how much difference Google has actually made with the Glass, it’s clear that they’re looking to make the experience of wearing a smartwatch even more enjoyable.
